A year ago this week we opened our doors here at the GWA. A year on, its amazing to reflect on what we have achieved so far. Its been a full on and rewarding first year and its satisfying to see this quintessential canal-side English pub improving week after week as we both add to and refine our business.
Winning the best new licensee at the recent Hook Norton Brewery Hooky Gold Awards was exciting for us and our team, as was being highly commended for our website www.great-westernarms.co.uk. Send this link to your friends and check out our online photo gallery! You can also find us on Facebook.
On the outside of the GWA, the roof is currently being replaced and our new outdoor furniture and courtyard layout is proving very popular. Our vegetable garden has made rapid progress thanks to Tony, with lettuces and herbs thriving, as well as potatoes, tomatoes and grapes beginning to take off. Our car parking area has just been expanded. When the front car park is full, customers can now park in the area alongside the canal. Thanks to Helen and Mike from the boat yard.
Inside, we have a stylish new wine list including English Champagne, a classy new cocktail list and an ever increasing range of premium spirits and malt whiskies to complement our Hook Norton Real Ales, for which Ali was recently rated 20/20 for quality by Cask Marque and presented with a certificate of excellence. We change our food menu daily so there is always something different to try. As always, our food continues to please. We love what we do and want you to enjoy what we create. We are open for food all day, every day. We have just started a Friday night happy hour 5.30-7pm with drink specials on still and sparkling wines and cocktails. Our new dessert selection for two is becoming popular- great value and perfect for couples! Katie Doyle continues to sweeten the first Friday night of every month with her acoustic guitar and soulful voice.
Our one year anniversary party on Tuesday night will include a BBQ in the courtyard, live music, skittles, pool and recent addition- Aunt Sally. Were all looking forward to celebrating big time with our regular customers, friends and family.
As most of you will already know, Ali is 8 months pregnant! Baby G will be here soon and we cant wait to have our first child. We both grew up in pubs, great that the family tradition is set to continue!
Thank you for supporting us and our progress. As we go into a busy summer, we will continue to endeavour to provide a welcoming atmosphere for all, serving quality food that satisfies, complemented with personal service. This pub epitomises everything an English pub should be. James Clark. Managing Director, Hook Norton Breweries.
